My ex was "fighting age" - he was a political refugee from Iran, was he not as entitled to safety as a woman? He's not invading, literally just living the life he was lucky to escape with.

Describing people as "fighting age" is definitely to frame them as dangerous. It's not a normal way to describe people, the only way I can imagine fighting age not being used in a derogatory way would be from an army recruiter.
