“Princess Grace” Here’s a montage of the late #PrincessGrace & a few unseen #photographs . long before the #Hermes “Kelly” bag as we know it today, it was originally called the “Sac à dépêches.” Thé Sac à dépêches was updated and tweaked in 1923 & by the 1930’s #Hermes CEO #RobertDumas had scaled down its size from a larger saddle carrier and reintroduced it into his mainline collection as the ultimate woman’s accessory for #celebrities & society’s elite. (Around the same time #Gabrielle #Chanel was also introducing straps to her iconic 2:55 handbag.) Ladies of this era were fed up of the restrictions of hand held bags and wanted more freedom and comfort when wearing their favourite designs. The Kelly bag wasn’t officially renamed until 1977, 21 years after actress #PrincesGrace of #Monaco was seen carrying it to conceal her pregnancy bump. #Princess grace herself wasn’t always just a lover of box leather either, she also carried the Kelly Toile during the 1950’s. Now for those of you that don’t know, the Kelly Toile sits firmly on the upper rungs of the desirability ladder, just shy of the “Picnic Kelly” rendition - although it is leaps and bounds ahead in usability and practicality. Reminiscent of #military army canvas, the Kelly Toile has a more #utilitarian approach to the classic elegant shape. The design oozes summer time - cocktails, rummaging the brocantes, white shirts and strappy #Summer sandals.
