Hi! I run a small town coffee shop. We use mostly monín syrup but some torani (like the banana is wayyy better for example). We are a small business but busy shop and i order like 30 syrup bottles a week. I’m already working 50+ hours a week there’s no way I can make that much syrup homemade every week. We do use a Japanese matcha tho! Please don’t shame us, we are doing our best 🥴

In general you don’t want matcha from any coffee shop. They never do it right, especially now that it’s trendy. I also don’t get the hate for Torani or Monin syrups. Expecting every coffee shop to only use house made syrups is pretty over the top.

Your $9 latte doesn’t just pay for the milk, syrup, espresso. It pays for the space, utilities, employees, business insurance, marketing. It’s very expensive to own a small business. Also limited licensing dictates lots of small businesses where they can’t make syrup from scratch or find a wholesaler who is within budget. Torani costs over $9 a bottle without shipping so imagine how much more “locally sourced” would be not to mention anything “fresh” has a 7 day window per the health department so if a business isn’t moving the product within 7 days that’s a lot of money going down the drain. It’s always easy being a “couch quarterback” during the game definitely different playing on the field.

All the people in the comments explaining how business costs work - we KNOW we aren’t JUST paying for the coffee and syrup. The point is that if you’re using cheap ingredients it doesn’t matter whatever else you’re doing, we’re not paying $9 for that. If you can’t make the coffee good and priced for the value then you shouldn’t have a coffee shop!

Don’t you think that would make the prices higher? The extra time and cost to make a homemade syrup that may not have the shelf life capabilities as premade doesn’t really seem worth it. Unless maybe it’s one or two and that’s all they have. 🤷🏻♀️

i love love love coffee beanery idk if you have one near you they use a matcha powder it’s over $130 for a small bag but affordable.. and they use monin syrups it’s actually way better
