@lornelmitchell44: Advice to the aging parents out there! Get Rid of Your Own Shit! Don’t just die and leave it for your family to deal with. That’s very unfair and inconsiderate. #ItsLornel #AgingParents #DeClutterNow #Grief #Organize

I have bonus family members that like to get digs in at me for having to have my kitchen etc tidy before I go to bed

Gurrrrrl my dad left boxes and boxes of hockey cards. In his defense, they’re very organized and he died at 52 from cancer, so I don’t think he really saw that in his “cards.”

Great advice!! I’m working through my parents “treasures” now box by box. I’ve made a promise to my children they will not have to do this. ♥️

Use your crystal everyday, put it in your cupboards to use and get rid of the everyday stuff. ❤️That’s what I do!

Exactly. My dad passed in June. Mom in 2021. So glad it was minimal to sort in his 2 bedroom apartment. We always consider this with our own stuff. Don’t want to leave our kids the headache.

Had me at boxes of China. 😁😁😁 Taking space in my closet. Step daughter inherited, said she didn't want them and left them here. Nobody wants them. Good dishes I inherited from my mum I use every day and I love them. Remembering all the meals and all the kids, the laughing and the fighting over who washes the dishes, who drys, who puts away. 🥰

We took 80 big garbage bags of my moms clothes to the area thrift store. She was a clothes horse. The thrift had to have their first sale ever. Lol.

totally agree! It's so stressful. My Mom left a butt load and she passed in 2024 and I'm still dealing with things/stuff no one wants ( collections, china, etc) mind you she ended up with dementia

Mom, 88, died 4 months ago. She could’ve given a master class in what you call “gifting the kids”. At 64, one of three, being caregiver and executor, she made it SO much easier. I am so grateful 🥹

It’s so true. You and I are so alike. My parents are still here with us at 85 and 82. I’m constantly asking them to let me help them donate or sell their material things.

I finally donated my mother’s beloved China to the local hospital thrift store. It meant more to her than me, but after 10 years in a box, it is time to offer it to someone who appreciates it. Royal Albert Old Country Roses, massive collection, never used. Now my children do not have to be burdened with it.
