@harveytherescue: people have very real fears of dogs! please be respectful 🩷 (but also if your dog runs up to me i will be very happy to give them treats 😂) #dogtrainer #dogparents #dogtok #DogTraining
No seriously bc I love dogs and don’t want random dogs in my space all the time

Hell im not even afraid of dogs, I love dogs, but im gonna be nervous if a large dog I don’t know charges up to me and I can’t tell if it’s friendly or not. I had a standoff with an off leash aggressive lab whose owners were several feet behind it that it was NOT listening to at all. Especially as I was in a wheelchair it was frightening. I’m not keen on repeating that incident

Louder for the people in the back!! My son just doesn’t like dogs. They are scary to him. People get so damn offended like if I let me 13 year old run up to them and jump all over them, they’d be fine? I love dogs but be respectful of others people!

Yes 🙌 Our vizsla is off leash in wooded trails but his recall is amazing and we leash him anytime we see/hear someone, or if the trail is busy. He never approaches and will often come back on his own. My other dog was good off leash, but she loved people so we never had her off leash unless it was wilderness hiking or an empty trail. People have a right to exist in spaces without dogs bothering them. They don't even need a "good reason."

in my country we have street dogs everywhere but they are the friendliest. on the contrary the dogs who have owners are like uneducated mostly spoiled and when I walk my dogs, im more afraid of those than the street dogs who are free to go where they want

yes 👏 i always try to explain to people that my dog is only allowed off leash because i’ve taught him that he cannot approach anyone or anything without permission first for safety reasons. he knows not to venture far ahead of me, turn corners on trails without waiting for me, he also auto-heels when he sees someone in the distance or if we are around other people or dogs (unless he’s specifically released after heeling). this did take training and time to achieve this, but it’s also 100% about me managing his actions & decisions to avoid any kind of unwanted interactions! not everyone is a dog person and not every dog wants to be approached either! responsible management is so key!!! 🔑 🙌 i always say I don’t mind seeing dogs off leash as long as they’re being properly managed and neutrally interacting with their environment/keeping to themselves without approaching us or anyone else!

children too!! I always assume kids are scared of my dog by default because they may not yet know how to communicate if they are or their body language may not show it as clearly and with adults. So I make sure they see that my dog is leashed and under control and we keep our distance

yes! there are lots of untrained offleash dogs BUT I do think people underestimate the amount of people just not paying attention/managing their dogs when they need to be😰

yess 👏 I once had a lady that way terrified of my rottie from across the street, and at first I was confused because my pup was wagging her tail and giving happy signals, but it is totally understandable for people to be scared of a strange dog. We just moved along! Love this message 🥰

As a Doberman owner I make sure to give extra space to people we pass when we can and say “give them space” out loud and my dog knows to move away. It helps them feel more comfortable and know I have control of my dog. People who want to interact w my dog always come to him, there's no reason for him to be running up to strangers

People ask me all the time if my dog is friendly and they can pet him. I ALWAYS warn them, he’s VERY friendly. Like if you want to just pet him… don’t bother. He wants to climb on you and make out. If you’re not into that… move along! And I always distance myself from strangers and give lots of space. He’s WAY too friendly for most people.

Training my dog used to feel impossible. He pulled on the leash, barked at everything, and ignored me no matter how many times I repeated commands. I honestly thought he was just stubborn. What changed everything was following the step by step structure in Paws That Listen Book by Buck Tavric. Once I learned how to set boundaries and communicate clearly, training finally clicked. Now my dog listens, walks calmly, and life feels so much easier 😍.
