I always assumed it was because a carousel was a mock horse race and statues of horses needed the illusion of motion and excitement. Very interesting

my friends mounted archery horse would pin his ears back and focus his eyes when he was running down the track. he was never in pain just sure focused. whe. he came of the track he brighten up again. rip Titus

My most favorite carousel of all time was at the San Antonio Zoo, iirc. It had a whole bunch of different animals, but my favorite was a sort of aquamarine colored Hippocampus (aka horse with a fishy lower half)

I thought it was like in the past with captive animals and people drew them… like the statue of the Roman twins with the she wolf, she looks like that cause it’s most likely a captured and terrified wolf

I would love to know your thoughts on the carousel at House on the Rock in Spring Green, Wisconsin. Some things I know about it are that it holds a record for number of lights on a carousel (20,000 I believe), and none of the animals on it are a horse, but horses decorate the walls of the room where it’s displayed. There is also a doll carousel at House on the Rock
