@rattlesnakesaz: On a very hot day, landscapers uncovered this little Western Diamondback Rattlesnake. The homeowners wanted to make sure it got to safety, so they got it into a bucket and kept it in a cool garage until I got there. But it wasn't safe yet. Relocation of snakes can be especially difficult when air temperatures are high enough to kill a rattlesnake from even being in it for long. So we need to find deep cover to escape the heat, and quickly. In this particular area, that means finding a packrat nest, and making sure that the snake gets all the way down into it. Far too often, we see well-meaning people and fire departments release snakes onto open ground, sparse grass, or a bush, walking away feeling as if a good deed has been done. But for the snake, it can mean quick death. This is the most overlooked aspect, and likely the most important part, of the entire action.

Great information on the release. People assume successful relocation isn't possible, but it's because there is a right way and a wrong way to do it.
