DON’T RUIN YOUR ITALY TRIP Most people treat Puglia as a quick stop off on their Italy trip. But I’m here to tell you, if you only spend a few days here, you will regret it! It’s the slowness of Puglia, the kindness of people who live in a region not yet over run with tourists and the luxury of enjoying an uncrowded aperitivo at your favorite spot that truly melts your heart. So I thought I’d put together a quick guide below to help answer some of your questions. 🚗 Do you need a car to explore Puglia? Yes, a car is highly recommended.
There are trains between major towns like Bari, Lecce, and Brindisi, but so many of Puglia’s most beautiful spots (like Locorotondo, Cisternino, or hidden beaches) are only accessible by car. Public transport is limited and not always reliable outside the main hubs ☀️ How many days in Puglia: Ideally 6–10 days. Puglia is a long region in Italy’s south (it stretches across the “heel” of Italy), and distances between top spots can be deceiving 🏡 Where to base yourself: Split your stay between inland and coast.
Ideally choose 2 bases: * Valle d’Itria (like Cisternino, Ostuni, or Locorotondo) for trulli villages, food, and easy day trips inland * Salento coast (like Otranto or Gallipoli) for beaches, baroque cities, and relaxed coastal vibes. 📍 We stayed at @grandhotelcostabrada in Gallipoli and loved it! 🏖️ Best time to visit: Late May to June or September to October.
You’ll get warm weather, swimmable seas, and fewer crowds. July and August are peak season, so expect higher prices and packed towns 🏘️ Must see towns and experiences: * Alberobello for the iconic Trulli houses * Polignano a Mare for cliffside views and swimming * Ostuni for whitewashed streets and food * Lecce for stunning baroque architecture * A boat tour to explore sea caves or the coast around Santa Maria di Leuca * Eating fresh seafood or orecchiette in a local trattoria Is Puglia on your Euro summer list? 📌 Save & share to help plan your Italy trip 👉 Follow for our free itinerary coming soon @WeAreinPuglia #weareinpuglia #pugliafoodies #pugliafoodies #pugliapromozione #italy #pugliaitaly #thingstodoinpuglia
