This poor excuse for a human was in jail for about 9 times. And was released every time. I’m all for insane asylum to come back or for jails to put in something to help. But if they don’t want to get better they won’t. 9 times, they made their choice, give them the chair already

Murdering someone unprovoked like that should mean you never get to participate in civilized society again, and likely deserve the death penalty. This can be true while at the same time acknowledging that significant change is needed to prevent this from happening again, like building out real mental health resources instead of more prisons.

As a leftist we are not saying that “Oh this person has a mental illness let them roam around.” No, what we desire is properly funding mental health as an institution. The current system and institution failed him for a multitude of reasons. We want a well ran, funded, and humane way to treat and take care of the vulnerable. What you are asking for and what is that same desire. The left doesn’t the same failure of the current system that allows him to fall in for a little bit and then remove himself from rehabilitation. We want to provide and give him the ability to be grounded in the real world as a good and productive member of society. Where I disagree with the right is that (as I understand it) they want to throw him in a cell and lock him away long ago and not treat the root cause for his issues

i think what needs to happen is the re-opening of the mental institutions. book-and-release is not working. however, the treatment and care in these facilities needs to be overhauled severely. this is why these places were shut down. they were no better than the streets. institutionalization with correct care. solves both problems
