Her dad creeps me out. I’ve never liked him because so much content is about Salish and what boy she likes. Her first date or first kiss. As her dad, why would you want to record this and then have absolutely anybody see it? Ugh it’s gross.

Sephora is weird for even partnering with her. She should be doing a crossover with a Walmart or Target, where children in her audience would be with their parents.

Gen Alpha parent here - we don’t let our kids watch YouTube. That’s it. That’s the hack. No social media either.

My daughter (9) has watched YT to varying degrees. We no longer allow channels with kid creators. It’s clear the parents are exploiting them and this is no different. Her dad literally made a video “shipping”his young daughter with her male best friend. It’s gross. We openly discuss why we’ve had to limit certain creators and we ask ourselves, “what value does the content add to our lives? Am I learning something?” It’s the parents’ job to monitor what our kids are consuming because it is out there and it will be the norm if we don’t actually parent our kids. I don’t have anything against Salish, but her dad is using her to make money.

The only skincare line I wanted the full collection of as a preteen was Bath & Body Works Art Stuff. The top ingredient I looked for? GLITTER

… and this is why my children (5 & 7.5) do not have access to YouTube. This is insane. As a millennial who grew up in the fat shaming of thin pop stars era, I fear for the repercussions down the line.

Gen alpha mom- my daughter is 9 and obsessed with “skincare” and I’m very familiar with Salish matter. But I will say the skincare, at least from my daughter, is less about “beautifying” and more about… having the thing. In a similar way to having a labubu or something. It’s a status. You’re cool and grown if you have xyz skincare. She almost exclusively uses the skincare when she’s on FaceTime with her friends who are all also showing their skincare “routine” together… which is a routine in name only because she’s definitely not using those products on a regular basis.

I AM shaming the parents. Get your BABIES off YouTube. They shouldn’t even know who this YouTuber is. They shouldn’t know what Sephora is and you shouldn’t be taking them to influencer pop ups and buying them skincare. Worry about teaching them how to read first.

Gen alpha parent here 🙋♀️my kids have no idea what Sephora even is because I allow them to be the CHILDREN they still are. They are excited about going to the bookstore, playground and beach. My daughter plays with my makeup. I truly judge mothers who enable skincare routine for their teenagers. Cooperations will do what they’ll do. But as parents: do better. I absolutely shame them 🤷♀️My kids know about sunscreen, because I haven’t failed them and enable insane consumerism. I said what I said.

To me, there’s a difference between kids wanting to use makeup (artistic bent) and kids wanting to use skincare (“preventative aging” bent). Makeup far less insidious

Her dad is weird. He’s a photographer I first started seeing his videos a few years ago when he’d have these video shoots with adult models and ballerinas running all over NYC and getting beautiful crazy shots…. Then slow it was just little girls… then became overwhelmingly about his daughter and now his daughter and her friends. Reminds me too much of that Piper Rochelle
