Let me just enlighten everybody you should not be keeping hermit crabs as pets at all they don’t make good pets they are supposed to be in colonies of thousands if you’ve got one of these poor animals you really are just abusing it

We won a hermie at a fair and was told to just give them some of our table food and a sponge of water every other day. After doing a little research we found we made a huge mistake, we have slowly been getting them what they needed, a week later one went down to molt and the other just stopped eating and drinking, he is alive but just sitting next to the heating pad partition if the tank and not doing anything else, he changed shells same day so we were able to get rid of the painted shell pretty quick. Should I be concerned that he is just sitting there not eating or drinking? And how do we know the other crab didn’t die under the sand?

I had no clue as a kid it needed this much, came here from a vid saying they can live past 2 years (up to 50). 🥺My poor hermit had no shot at a long life.

You should make a go fund for the crabs you rescue. I inherited turtles from my grandpa and I try my best to give them the best life

my parents got me these and I tried warning them of needing this much care but they still got me 2 for there birthday. and I'll be going home in 3 days I really hope they'll make it until I get home and get them a tank. they do have natural shells that I boiled so they hopefully will get out of the painted shells so I can throw them away
