Sokhonn said the neighbor—without mentioning Thailand by name—has resorted to force instead of agreed mechanisms, relying on unilateral maps rather than internationally recognized ones established under treaties binding the two countries—actions he stressed undermine trust-building and peace efforts. He emphasized Cambodia’s deep concern over the eviction of its civilians, the threat of applying Thai laws against them, and the displacement of families from lands they have inhabited for decades. “Such methods of territorial control on border sections not yet demarcated clearly demonstrate a disregard for established agreements, not only the terms of the ceasefire but also the mutual commitments on settling border issues,” he added.
