Put it in his IEP. I had to put in B's that he was not to be asked where is belt was.
You are legally allowed to change it as much as you need.

my daughter in law is a preschool teacher. every year she has a meeting with every students parents. she goes to every home to meet the parents. iep or no. she sees them all. both semesters. so how you have not met case manager for special needs is wild. our population here is 50,000 plus. we have dozens of schools. it can be done. no excuses.

Them having a conversation without you, and the security officer casually letting you know what they talked about sounds like a HUGE privacy violation.

The security officer shouldn't even be involved in the conversation OR be the one informing parents of anything. I'm floored....so unprofessional! Wow.

Are they not suppose to do an IEP meeting at the beginning of school? I always had one with our 504z

I would have flipped my lid. That’s the job of the case manager. They should have included you in that meeting. That is not the job of the security guard to inform you.

I always felt that there was nobody above me in making any decisions for my children in regards to school other than GOD.If they thought they had a place in hierarchy they were sorely mistaken.I was polite but firm and I never ever raised my voice..you are doing the right thing..you are your child's voice and protector.

You might need to hire an advocate, this should absolutely be in his IEP and you should have met his counselor before school even started. IEP meetings need to take place before school starts during and when it ends.

I think you should demand that they put it in his IEP. That protects you and your son from it becoming “a distraction”. Then under no circumstances can they alter the plan. And if you’ve never actually spoken to the case manager or met her, it’s completely rude for no return call. It would’ve been the perfect opportunity for her to do introductions and answer any questions/concerns.

Since its a new school they should of had an in person meeting with you already. Yes they should have called you back and not just discussed it then have the security guard telling you. not overreacting at all.

Call an IEP meeting. Tell them your cincerns and put it in the IEP. Also, call and have a discussion with the teacher too. .

I fought teachers in PA over ieps for years. TN not only accommodated, they offered several better ways to accomplish our goals.

You are asking for communication. I would be calling again requesting his case manager return my call. Adult to adult. You got this!

This infuriates me. My daughter had IEP and they try to gaslight all the time. It’s middle school as well. Hate it. Get it in his IEP ASAP

IEP like the Bible. If it’s not written it doesn’t exist. Including how staff communicates with you. Call for a new IEP meeting

Wait a second, you did not have an iep meeting with the new school. They're just going by the iep he had last year? you need to get in touch with that case manager and demand a new meeting. Because this is about safety and a parent has the right to request a new meeting if there are safety concerns. you also have to get it into the IEP so they can't tell you that it's become a problem. i'm still baffled by the fact that they didn't have a new meeting for a new school.

As a special education teacher, this was completely unprofessional! She should have called you back and not passed the message through the security guard. In my district, we have a 24 hour grace period for responding to parents so even if she couldn’t get back to you right away she should have called you. I would have it put in the IEP just in case you move or he gets placed at another school. I love that you recognize that he needs this accommodation to be successful.

You are DEFINITELY NOT overreacting! From my experiences, email the case manager with Principal & Vice Principal cc’d requesting a meeting noting you’ve left 2 messages already with no return call.
