I live beside a Mormon community in Canada and idk what it is but I just get weird vibes in that town.

My exodus was a slow, painful process starting when I was 16. I was an on again, off again Mormon. The main theme to my exodus was realizing Mormonism preys on the lonely promising this “community of service” yet I never really felt that community. The final straw for allowing my children to attend was the announcement about trans people not being allowed to work with children. I prohibited my children to take part in that toxic environment. That was the beginning of my awakening. I’m still learning, but hot damn! 😳

That Holland talk rocked my entire world. My daughter, a BYU student, had just come out.

Former Mormon here too. Mine started with prop eight back in 2008. But it was a slow roll after that for a couple years and I had to get out as soon as I found out what they had done to my community I had to get out.. I’m queer and both my sisters are queer. I couldn’t belong to an organization that thought we were abominations

I was 43 and my now ex left me because I left the church. The kids are still in. It’s hard but I’m SO much happier two years out! Good for you rebuilding your life.

Idk if you are open to consuming media about people who’ve left high control religions and cults (idk if that’s a lot to handle for you) but there’s an amazing podcast called Trust Me about churches and cults. One of the hosts was raised in a really intense branch of Mormonism. Might be of interest!

The shelf breaking is a heartbreaking moment. When people ask why I left it seems so small and pointless but it made the world around me crumble. Keep fighting the healing is worth it!

I was active non believing for about 4 years, and then this last year as I dug deeper into church history it really opened my eyes to the way women are regarded. I just told my husband last week that I don’t want the kids going to church anymore, I don’t know if the marriage will survive it

Because whenever I asked “why?” My teachers could never give me a clear answer and I was told I needed to “have faith and just believe”. That wasn’t good enough for me. As I was exposed to friends outside of the faith, I realized how crazy and fake this religion was and ran.

May I ask, have you found another religion since? I’m fascinated by the way one person makes up a religion and people just follow, I think we all just have a need to have a leader/tell us what to do and navigate away from our own thoughts and feelings 🙏🏻

I was faith transitioning/deconstructing from 2019-2020. I vividly remember the last Sunday I attended was the fast Sunday of March 2020. I was so over the dissonance I felt and the forced break was a godsend to just walk away.

I’m very black and white. Once I left I was g o n e. 2023. My friends are all still LDS. I’m 50 so I don’t really make new friends at this age. 🤣 Just don’t believe in shoving it down my friends throat that I’m free and not a pity case.
