there's no reason NOT to cut the tail feathers here and i congratulate you for recognizing that (as you clearly would, this is not a surprise) when some others might not! he's not very social and he doesn't fly, the two reasons he'd need a tail. your care for your birds is immensely inspiring and educational :)

Poor Paco, you can really tell by his stiff movements that he's feeling arthritic 🥺 I'm so glad you're taking care of him

Honestly as someone who is VERY anti clipping wings, tails, ect. You did the right thing, it was the only and best thing u would do and although it was probably hard for both of you it will make it a lot easier for him to live, and for you The fact that you care for him when it's probably very hard is a beautiful thing and Im glad to see he has a good home and a loving bird parent 💕

This is the right reasons to cut the feather💜 it was going to be inevitable eventually considering his conditions, and knowing he is safe from danger with you is also very telling in the way you made your decision. Must have been a hard one to choose, but it will be healthier him in the long run. 💜

I’ve had to do this for a disabled budgie, she was blind and other neurological issues so she spent most of her similar to Paco. She struggled perching a lot

Paco looks SO much better since he’s been with your flock. He has special needs, so you have to do what is necessary to make him comfortable. He looks so amazing, compared to before. I know you are making it count for him!🫶🏼

With birds with special needs certain things are needed. No one wants poopy feathers. You’re not wrong in doing this for this bird

You made the decision based on his health for quality of life… for medical reasons not appearances… totally the correct decision for Paco… he is in safe hands with you… no ruffled feathers here… you chose to put Paco’s comfort ahead of your own

Poor man, I have scoliosis so I understand how tough it can make life sometimes. You 100% made the right decision for his well being, if anyone tries to tell you differently don’t listen, you know what’s best for your birds ❤️

He looks a lot happier like that, and he’s handsome either way! I have a question though, if he struggles to get around his cage why do you have his food dish elevated so he has to climb to get to it? Would it be more accessible for him if it were on the ground, or is it for hygiene/enrichment reasons? No hate whatsoever, I’m just curious ❤️

we have a cockatiel with the same tag along issue. his cage is set up the same way too. his feet dont work for perching and whatnot so his name is of course, Lt. Dan, or LTD for short.

I felt the same way when I had to give my green cheek a wing clip. She was SO clipped when I got her that she never learned to fly. When her wings grew back, she’d spook and fly straight into walls, doors, windows…. The vet clipped two feathers on each wing to slow her down a bit so we could work on learning to turn! Now she’s fully flighted
