As a white woman I 100% agree. Do the work on yourself and the hold your friends and families accountable. It’s OUR responsibility

💯 white people have GOT to do the work!!! not only for the better of all black people (and other POC) but also before having close relationships with POC so that they can be as safe of a person as possible and not do any more damage with their privilege/obliviousness. i see it as a gift and opportunity when a black person gives me a chance to be close to them because i can only imagine the vulnerability that takes knowing they could feel exhausted and betrayed yet again by opening that door.

I’m STILL unlearning my internalized racism. It’s so deeply engrained in us

It is crazy when you realize. Back In highschool my drama teacher brought in a speaker to talk about anti racism specifically for white people and it was really eye opening to understand that even if YOU aren’t racist, your background of whiteness is and still needs to be unpacked

Listen, black history SHOULD be studied more and put in schools more for the awareness that something’s are culturally sensitive, That is not a question. But that fact is the matter is it’s not, and like you said people need to be aware enough of the cultural backgrounds so even if someone DOES cross a boundary they can take a step back, apologize and learn from it there. Even if you are doing the eternal work, people still say or do the wrong things, just as long as you acknowledge it and change it.

Even then they need to have a personality that wants to continue to learn and grow. Being called out is a chance to improve yourself, not be defensive because you feel you’ve “done the work”

Yesyesyes. All of this. Is divesting from whiteness and white supremacy some of the most uncomfy inner work I’ve ever done? Undoubtedly. Has this work also directly and indirectly liberated me, made me feel more connected to the whole point of humanity, and overall increased my connection and joy? Resounding yes. It really is worth all the discomfort, ladies. Do the work.

White woman here who studied sociology and I have to say, yes!! it is not enough for us white people to be passively against racism, we have to be actively anti-racist. Virtue signaling beliefs is not enough. We must do the uncomfortable work of challenging racism in our families & communities, and that means also acknowledging how we (even those who claim innocence) still uphold & benefit from this system of oppression

THIS. The shocked reaction I get when I speak on my own internalized racism is so frustrating because what do you mean you don't scrutinize your inner bias,

This is why i havent dated a white man yet, (havent even been approached by one) but they have to come at a very high standard level to even get my attention. Its an unsafe zone unless otherwise proven to me that they are.
