@carlosbcomics: It sounds hard to believe but there’s actually several advantages to learning to draw as an adult that can help you learn faster and enjoy drawing more. Of course I took all these for granted when I learned to draw and did a lot of unnecessary worrying and fretting, but I’m sharing these so you don’t have to! #DrawingTips #LearnToDraw #ComicArtist #arttok #creativelife
I suffer from the urgency 😞 its so demoralizing fixating over what is the “correct” way to learn drawing instead of drawing

I started drawing 2 months ago, I am 43. I didn't expect anything, I have natural talent and don't pressure myself on perfection, wich being a perfectionist, was a challenge I set, of just enjoying the process and not judging my work.

i drew a lot as a kid and literally could not draw a hand until i picked it back up as an adult and it took 2 weeks of genuine study and i have it down lol the exponential curve of development is sooooo much more dramatic learning now as an adult

Criticism from parents really muffed up my confidence when it came to anything creative. Oh well, better late than never right?

I feel it’s easier to draw as an adult because correction is easier imho. I feel the same thing applies to music. The issue is trying to lay down the steps to become better.

First time I started drawing I was 18. My biggest tip/idea is that learning to draw is essentially like working out. It is a muscle you have to train. It certainly takes time to develop so don’t rush and enjoy your time.

I burnt myself out completely because of knowing what I made wasn't what I wanted it to be, and trying to work to pass that. Now I can barely think about drawing something before that frustration completely consumes me and prevents me from trying. It's incredibly demoralizing.

That’s true! There is this bias to worship people who started to draw young and call it just talent when it’s just about good drawing habits! 🙂↕️do you have any advice on better drawing habits that you think everyone, even people with previous experience, might benefit from?

I’ve been re-learning stuff as an adult. At first I beat myself up for not being consistent for 15+ years (often going years without drawing or making music), but it ended up being an amazing opportunity to correct some of those bad habits from my teen years.

really good video! this also applies to any other form of adult learning! i’m currently learning mandarin right now (i live in a mandarin-language country for work) and my coworkers joke about how i’m doing elementary level work right now, but of course i am! i’m new, but i won’t have to spend the entirety of the equivalence of elementary school to reach the same level, because i already am an adult with lots of other experiences and ways to learn
