Because War is what we do. Like the Army War College, Naval War College... etc. it aint defense, he just called it what it really is.

I’m sure you know this but for the benefit of others. The department of war was changed to department of Defense in 1949. The service member oath in its current form was ratified in 1950. No where in it does it say anything about making war, but it does say something about defending the constitution.

the real question is why did they change the name from department of war? like it was a solid good name. like why did we change it to begin with from department of war? because that was its original name. it's just going back to its roots and remembering who it was. it wanted its name back.
