I really hate that technology has become the bad guy. I miss being excited for progress and discovery. I hope enough stem people leave these groups and this model. I hope those that can build good stuff strike out to do that. In the interim, I want to go back to the 90s.

JD Vance very much is & has been a part of the construction of our demise. He met Thiel in 2011 at a talk at Yale Law School, and quickly started planning a different career path. He did the VC thing (was a partner at Mithril Capital) and by 2017, he was connected to HF in order to boost his name rec & prepare for a solid run for office. In 2019, he created the Rockbridge Network, bringing together PayPal Mafia alums, Heritage Foundation leadership, far-right billionaires, celebs, etc in order to create the MAGA machine that would absolutely drown the public in far right propaganda in the years to come. So, is he a billionaire? No (not yet). Is he a major player? Absolutely.

I would argue that it’s much older than 10 years old. This was going on much longer. Most of the social media platforms don’t have the origins that have been claimed. They have darker reasons that are backed by government. They knew what they were doing all along.

My coworkers daughter has a masters in neuroscience and did her thesis on how to influence human mood through technical impulse, which would not be perceived by the person who is influenced. She’s considering washing it down the drain due to the immense amount of bad it could do in the current climate. So uh… FYI?
