I always have trouble not getting the hole to widen even the slightest bit, which will be seen next to the faceplate. I’ve been using a forsner bit which seems to help

I use a 19mm with the sauber and make an oval shape. You get more beef on the faces of the doors for fixings

always used to use a 22mm for this reason and chisel out the top for the latch, a tubular latch that's only 20mm diameter would be a dream

I also prefer 24mm but some latches won’t fit and you have to use a 25mm

I use a sharp 22mm normal bit and once it's through long enough I give it a wiggle round n round

faucner bit cuts nicer than a spade bit. is tapered and pulls itself in so easier and cleaner cut

I use a 24mm but rock it up and down so it lengths it vertically for the latch but keeps it narrower
