@southbayresponders: Dozens of Containers Fall Off Ship at Port of Long Beach | Long Beach, CA | Tuesday, September 9, 2025 | More below ⬇️ • Just before 9 a.m., more than 60 shipping containers toppled from the Portuguese-flagged cargo ship Mississippi, docked at the Pier G terminal, and plunged into the harbor waters. • Roughly 67 containers ended up in the water, according to the U.S. Coast Guard. • Some of these containers struck and damaged the STAX 2 clean-air barge, an adjacent pollution-capture vessel. • Cargo operations at Pier G were immediately suspended while authorities worked to secure the area. • A Unified Command was activated—including agencies like the U.S. Coast Guard, Long Beach Fire and Police Departments, the Army Corps of Engineers, and port officials—to coordinate the response. • The U.S. Coast Guard established a 500-yard safety zone around the vessel and is issuing hourly maritime alerts to warn other ships of the hazard. • No injuries have been reported. • The cause of the accident remains under investigation. ⸻ I appreciate the community members who DM and share photos or videos of incidents—it helps me respond faster and accurately.
