i have a Ugandan friend I met around 2018 in Kansanga. Back then, he was working for someone but later got chased from that job. For a while, I didn’t see him. One evening, I came across him again he had just come back from the village and was moving around looking for a rental house. As we talked, he told me he was about to pay three months’ rent upfront, but he was worried since he had lost his job some time back. I took him for evening tea, and during our talk, I shared a business idea with him. I advised him instead of spending all that money on rent, to use it as capital for a small business and, in the meantime, stay at the business place until he could manage to rent a house. He agreed and started right away. Two years later, he had already employed four people and was making good money. I left Uganda, but we still keep in touch. Recently, he told me he finished his nursing degree, is still running the business, and even makes music on the side.
