According to the Bible, there are five kinds of people you should not rush to help. This is not teaching you to be cold hearted. It is reminding us that love needs wisdom, and it also needs principles. Because some kinds of help do not change a person for the better. Instead, they may enable their bad behaviour and cause harm to both sides. First, people who are ungrateful. They only receive and take, but never learn to appreciate what others do for them. If you keep giving, while they treat your help as something they are entitled to, your help may not help them grow. Instead, it may make them more dependent on others. Second, people who always take advantage of others. They use other people’s kindness to satisfy their own desires. They keep asking for more and are never satisfied. If you keep giving in, you may actually be feeding their greed. Third, people who refuse to accept the truth. If someone refuses to reflect on themselves, will not listen to correction, and knows they are wrong but still refuses to change, then even a great deal of help may not bring real change. True help is not solving every problem for them. It is helping them learn to face their own problems, and become willing to return to the truth. Fourth, people who love to stir up trouble. If spreading gossip, causing division, and turning people against one another has become their habit, then without discernment, you can easily get pulled into the conflict as well, and even damage relationships between people. Fifth, people who have no integrity. If someone lies again and again, avoids responsibility, and you keep cleaning up the mess for them and carrying the consequences, they will become even less willing to take responsibility for their own choices. Brothers and sisters, God has never taught us to cover up wrongdoing, and He has never told us to use “love” as an excuse to enable someone’s bad behaviour. True help is not endlessly satisfying someone’s demands. It is helping a person learn gratitude, repentance, honesty, and responsibility for their own choices. Mercy does not mean having no boundaries. Love does not mean endless compromise. So ask yourself today: Does the way I show love really agree with God’s teaching? If you also want to study God’s Word more deeply, understand how to live out the truth in relationships, have both love and healthy principles, and prepare for the return of the Lord Jesus, you are welcome to join our online Bible study group.
