I’m 24F and my boyfriend is 22M. We have known each other for about 5 years and were best friends before we started dating 2 months ago. He told me he liked me for a long time but didn’t express it earlier because he didn’t want to ruin our friendship. Everything is good between us, but his mother and sister recently found out about our relationship and they strongly disapprove. The main reasons they give are that I am 2 years older and I have scoliosis. They believe I may suffer in the future or have health-related issues, and they think he will also suffer if he continues the relationship. They have been very emotional and sometimes disrespectful about it. My boyfriend is still supporting me and says he won’t leave me, but he is also under pressure from his family since he is still studying at university and depends on them. I love him and feel comfortable with him, but I’m confused about how to handle this situation. Has anyone experienced something similar? How should couples deal with strong family disapproval like this early in a relationship?
