We are totally of grid, living in a suburb in the east of Jhb. Best thing we ever did. First did the borehole and water filtration system just more than a year ago because water is constantly an issue with Rand Water. Went with full solar system last week and are now self sufficient. Never thought it would be possible to do this in an urban area, but yes it is not only for rural living.
