I think you nailed it. The show line, unfortunately, has bred in too many hip and joint issues. That is why I will always choose a working line.

I have an adopted qimmiq husky cross. Very much a working dog. These crosses are Inuit sled dogs although often pets as well. I'm always home so we have a lot we can do. Hes only 8 months now and i have had him a week he doesn't know much from his last home, but i think I'm the perfect match for him.

I have a working line who’s temperament is fantastic. And that’s his greatest characteristic. His biggest drive is play drive. We have incorporated activities to mentally challenge him and break his resistance. It’s all in the training protocol. Once he knew his role and place, he responded accordingly. Love up time vs work time. There is no exercise to make him tired. He only builds more endurance. And yes, get DNA, get X-rays and have full work up before breeding and when you purchase one

I have a show line however she is my first female so maybe that is it. She is amazing but veryyyy people selective. Super protective of my daughter but will hide behind me if its just us. She is almost perfect, she can veg around the house with me if I have a down day or go all day.

My GSD is from service dog lines. I thought he would be “calmer”. Hes most def way too smart and has way more energy than any other GSD I’ve ever had 😳 good thing I work from home.

I got a working line and at my last house I gave him a job. He was to dig holes and tear up all the Chinese elm roots. They spread like wild fire He loved it and I didnt care. Now in this house he has dug me one pond and we are working on a larger one.We play hide and go seek, but its hard because he has memorized all my spots.He also has the job to kill anything in the yard, birds, bugs anything. He is pest control.Ive had him since he was 4 weeks old and he is now 7 years old. His most recent job is to get in my pond and walk around throwing up the hair algae so that I can remove it as it can cause problems if theirs to much of it. He has extensive training in protection. People need to understand the difference between the 2 different types and do their research before getting one.

Thank you for this! GSDs are the best, ppl get them due to their popularity. They do not do their research. Or they see all the videos of the best GSDs, not realizing how much work it took to get that dog to that point!

I adopted my girl Lana from the shelter at 3 months old. She’s now 9 months & 80lbs & still growing. I did her DNA and she’s 100% GS. She’s built like a working line & definitely likes a little playtime/walk, but she is also very mellow. Like lazy! She plays for about 5-10 minutes & she’s done/pooped! She can handle hour long hikes, but she’s not thrilled about anything on the leash. I’m working with her on her recall so she can have more off leash at the park time. So is she working line or show line???? Thanks!

I knew at 15 I wanted a working line, I knew that it would take an incredible amount of work time and discipline and that it would have to be a very specific situation. Sadly I lost my husband to cancer when I was 42. I retired to take care of my daughter, that is when God opened the door to showline DDR-he is trained in family protection, level headed great at duties he wasn’t trained for abd awesome to travel with most importantly he has an off switch! I still do very specific routines morning, mid-day evening drive outlet rain, hot temps or cold. I work with one of the best trainers to improve mental drive outlet…It’s a commitment a discipline but this Dog is my lifeline in dealing with being a widow single mother! it’s not for everyone ❤
