Chains give u a warning before they fail they make noise a belt just breaks and thats is usually catastrophic

If you keep the Oil clean with the proper maintenance the chain will get to 100k or more easily 😄😄

Got an "05 Camry with a 197,000 on the dash. My mechanic said no need to even touch the belt, its just fine.

I'd rather drive non interference engines which are mostly belts. the aera of non interference engines were much easier to change parts

Chains do not stretch. They would take high forces that yield the material. They wear at the contract surfaces of the chain and sprockets. Chains require a rather large force to yield the material. If that happens, your engine is already toast.
