I can't blame him. He probably realized what she was doing. And someone who will take advantage like that is not someone that should be in a relationship, imo. The exception is if one partner enjoys spoiling the other and they both know it.

i do pay for the first date but if she’s ordering 3 drinks at 20+ each as well as food purely to have me pay, then i’ve already decided she’s not for me and we’re splitting the bill because i have nothing to lose.

That’s a lot of money for a first date, but it’s also insane that she went crazy and randomly ordered lot of stuff thinking he was going to pay for it. Why wouldn’t she just order like a normal person? She’s the red flag.

Ordering that much with the expectation that someone else will pay, even if that hasn’t been established, is inconsiderate. It also comes across as a ploy for a free dinner and nothing more. There needs to be mutual respect even if someone else is asking you out.

Yeah I think there’s a mutual respect needed. If someone is paying for a meal, regardless of their relation to you, you should still be respectful and not go nuts ordering too much. It reminds me of the woman that ordered like 5 dozen oysters on a quick lunch date

She’s wrong for going into a date knowing she was going to over order. It’s greedy and selfish. He should have told the waiter seperate checks bc it doesn’t sound like he ordered $200 worth of food. He was right to ask to split especially since it seems there wasn’t a second date.
