We live on base in Kadena, I think the housing occupancy is so high because they can’t fix anything. We have so many empty houses around that no one is moving into. They just redid a whole neighborhood near gate 3, but soon discovered a designs flaw they don’t have the budget to fix.. right now another neighborhood is being re done and should be done in December 2025 🤷🏼♀️but it’s seems they’ve slowed down in their progress. We moved here in April 2023 and we hated our options but they would not even entertain us having an off base option, unless we lived on base for 1 year and electively moved off base on our own dime. These houses on Kadena are rough, unless you get a newly renovated one.

Ok idk how your video came across my page but we just moved to Okinawa a few weeks ago and we had the LITERAL same experience. Are you or your husband an E7? Wondering if it’s our counselor! She didn’t contact us at all(we had to go see her) and then when we asked about living off base she said “oh why didn’t you tell me you wanted to live off base” 🤦🏼♀️She didn’t communicate at all and since we have been on the island so long(3 weeks) we just moved into Kadena instead of trying to figure out off base. 😩 So annoying! I’m glad it worked out for yall!
