throwing in that the rent hikes are killing more guerilla tours in indie bands. It wasn't unusual for bands to 'go on tour' by crashing at their Internet friends houses between gigs. Now everyone lives in micro-studios that you can't blow up an air mattress in

I believe the music phrase is called “call and response”. It originated from Africa, a lot of artists still use this practice

The death of the small in between venue is also a reason indie rock is struggling there used to be 100ish cap rooms for these small bands to cut their teeth on and learn to perform live and especially in front of people that do not care about their music. There also used to be like 3 opening bands but artists can’t afford to take anyone out on tour so those bands aren’t getting organic exposure to established audiences. Also I think it’s weird that people now feel too old to go to concerts live music is for all ages!

Young teen in the early 20’s and loved my emo, indie rock band concerts at venues like The Gramercy and Irving Plaza. I do think we’ll get back there eventually 🙏🏽

It can also be said that there is a sharp decline in religious belief amongst millennials due to the fact that we have been through unprecedented times very often that could be one to believe that there is no God.

Going to shows when I was in high school was so much fun. Almost every Friday I was exhausted at school because I had been out too late the night before at one of the bars that let under 18 in seeing the bands that had come that week. They traveled the country in their little vans that you would see in the parking lot. It was so much fun and cheap(maybe even free?!) Would love to have another night like that again.

That’s why I kinda love that all American rejects are playing houseparty venues that people are volunteering to host. They’re trying to bring back house parties with bands. I don’t know if it will work in the long run, but I feel like I do want to respect that. They are kind of trying.

This makes soooooo much sense! I've missed indie rock and R&B. I've definitely seen a resurgence in the past year and I definitely think its bc of post-COVID cultural shifts

Another thing is the “death” of the middle class. Working families live in apartments. Homes with attached garages and basements are renovated and transformed into rental units. And because of the cost of living you see more co-living (intergenerational, roommates, boarding style houses, and “doubling up”) which leaves no money for instruments and space for the kids practice.
