Earth and space science new? My Daughter is already taking that, and its been available for a few years now at her school, Physics is a whole separate subject that can be taken. Maybe it's more for making it a University approved subject, because presently it isn't.

they moved hospitality - primarily a food based class (depending on how you teach it) into social sciences 😂😂

As a social sciences teacher, I’m pleasantly surprised by the focus on social sciences. Civics, politics, and philosophy are desperately needed in our schools! (Already teach these topics in other subjects as much as I can, but could be nice to have an actual subject) also very pleasantly surprised by the Pacific and Māori studies subjects, and happy to have sociology as a UE subject (it exists already, so it’s not a completely new subject, but will be good to have it UE approved). Gutted by the cutting of art history (and interested to hear the rationale?) but that’s about the only major loss in social sciences at least, I was fearing much worse!

i did maori studies at taita college back in the day, it was a subject we all had. so that's not new either...

We have full time academies at our school, (students building houses) but that won't work in the new system because you have to take 4 subjects.

As a student currently in high school literally all of these already exist- I’m taking some of what you listed and my friends are taking some of the other mentioned classed. Also with the Māori based and industrial path ways… my school already have these too? And I attend a low income, under staffed school 😭

the other issue is if you end up at a smaller school these neiche subjects have never been offered. there were two of us that wanted to do media so they canned it and we never had economics or accounting like other schools

ESS (Earth and Space Science), Media and Journalism are already NCEA 1-3 and also Civics politics and philosophy is just year 9-10 but made to fit MCEA qualifications and no need to mention Statistics and Data since that’s just a class that nearly every school has and the same goes for Music. If Māori medium subjects are KapaHaka and Māori Performing Arts then thanks for making classes that already exists. Also Ik a few East Auckland schools have Tech classes like Engineering, automotive, cooking, etc. So ngamihi to Erica Stanford for making totally new and innovative classes that schools totally don’t already have, she must be a genius 😂😂😂
