Dean is only 21. Kirk was 31 and was assassinated for political commentary. I agree that Charlie Kirk was a horrendous bigot but Dean’s immediate reaction of being upset to me just seems human given his own age and career. I don’t understand why we’re all dragging a kid for having sympathy

As a leftist, I'm surprised by my reaction to this ... given I loathed the guy and had never heard him say a thing I did not find despicable. I think it is also just normal to feel literal horror to something like this happening to anyone. I'm not going to cry over it, but I also hate that anyone could do that to another person. I don't think I could ever cheer violence, but I also can't get myself to judge it's use by those endangered and oppressed either.

The biggest problem with liberal politicians and voters is they believe they can change the minds of people that hate them to the fullest degree. They feel that decorum is necessary with those who would never do the same for them. And when something bad happens to their political adversary, they think the switch of differences can be turned off and try to humanize people who would never give them the same amount of grace. While at the same time blaming oppressed people (Congo, Gaza, Sudan, even other americans) for their own problems instead of the people and institutions that created them

dean does do public political speaking. It makes sense he would have strong emotions about someone who does a similar job as him. I’m pretty sure they’ve debated so they’re kinda work colleagues when you think about it? Like… I get what you’re saying but I think we can give him a little grace

dean crying about this actually became a self fulfilling prophecy, because we all know hes only crying now that he realizes it COULD be him that gets shot. he and kirk were one degree of sociopolitical separation away (and arguably now less that he has equalized himself)
