You are correct that a person's natural lip color is what makes it look different on everyone. It is changing colors though. The ingredient is a ph indicator that turns pink in the presence of an acid.

i mean it could be? have you tried swatching on your hand? ive gotten some lipgloss that does color change like that that i tested on my hand. went on clear, turned pink. do i believe its pH specifically? not really? but its cute nonetheless.
