Can you do one for eldest daughters? My mom never tried to be my friend as a child but tries to now but there was 0 emotional intimacy between us growing up and a lot of trauma from her life choices. And now shes a mostly hands off grandparent.

My mom used me as her personal therapist, had me call her by her name and told me I was her best and only friend ever since I was little. Her adult problems seemed so big to me that I never felt like I could tell her anything happening in my life. I still to this day feel viscerally uncomfortable to tell my parents literally anything about my life, even positives 😅

Can you talk about the dynamic when one of the children is an addict/unhealthy and the “good” kid is isolated. Because that’s where I struggle. My parents and brother are a little dysfunctional trio. And I’m always the outsider.

The biggest trigger for cut off when children enter the picture? Because all the messages about her being so difficult to love etc hit her like a ton of bricks when she realises how incredibly easy it is for her to love her kids - and the devastation she wasn’t loved by her own mother that way.

one of my earliest memories is my mom telling me what a bad person my dad is, yet she stayed with him. Told me the details of his affair when I was a teenager and would ask things like “what’s wrong with me, why would he do that?”. Yet never asked me how any of his actions affected me. Just unloaded her emotions and wasn’t able to self regulate ever.

I was with you until "divorce is the worst things for kids" because some of us left our emotionally absent husbands so we could set boundaries and have fulfilling relationships with friends and family and healthy relationships with our kids.
