Thank you for saying this. Everyone acts like because he doesn’t hit me, it’s not abuse.

Told my husband for years the way we were going was not sustainable and needed change. That didn’t cause our problems, his inability to face the concerns caused the problems

Right. I would be horrified. But not because I feel threatened. I would feel horrified that I was not honoring my partner and their needs and that they felt that “enduring it for peace” was the best option. It’s the many, many small failures that led to it.

I've accepted it for what it is. Ive just focus on myself now. He thinks that I've quit nagging... I just don't care anymore.

If this conversation is shocking to that partner than they aren’t paying attention.

If a woman feels like she has to attach an ultimatum to a request for better treatment, it’s because her male partner is has ignored her previous requests.

Omg, yes. 💯 just left a relationship for this very reason!!! I felt invisible and needs were constantly minimized and true repair from them was impossible.

I expressed wanting a divorce to my husband last night as I’m at my wit’s end. The constant state of being anxious and overwhelmed while he is always cold and angry is too much.

My partner broke up with me recently and the relief I felt was insane. Because I walked away knowing I did EVERYTHING I could and felt so alone in the relationship anyways.

I told my husband that today and he told me how toxic it is to hold that above his head. I said I'm sorry but I really need you to under I've been at my wits end for 2 years and I'm just not willing to continue any longer

What's tragic is that if you were a man i could send this to my husband and he might hear it. What's worse is that I think he's OK with me hurting if he gets to be comfortable

Went through this at the end of my 11-yr relationship. It is really hard to talk about this without making it an ultimatum. But it’s not! Like you’re saying, it’s just been borne by one person, the second partner is just suddenly feeling the weight of that too when the first partner starts to verbalize and set a hard boundary.

See I’m partner A in tbis scenario, but my bf doesn’t ever feel like it’s unstable or insecure or anything. When I finally say (after over and over of bringing the issues and finally saying “okay im fed up and unhappy) his response is “what? Why? I thought we were doing great” like HELLO?

Just left a 21yr marriage. The more I tried to communicate in the way you describe, the more backlash I got. The calmer and more logical my approach, the more deflection I recieved. He is playing the victim and saying it came out of nowhere when I had given him feedback for two years. I couldn’t keep shouldering the pain. It destroyed me.

I knew my relationship was unstable for 19 years. I stayed quiet and small to keep the peace. When I finally stood up for myself and said no more, it imploded. I did not want to leave, but I couldn’t take it anymore.

Hm I feel like partner A but my husband would feel like partner A as well, how does that unfold in the dynamic.

I love this. However, I think one take away I had was, you did a very eloquent job of vocalizing a need (“when X happens, I feel Y.”). I find that Partner A doesn’t communicate this effectively; the needs are often communicated as criticisms and that puts Partner B in defense. That dynamic adds to the instability. I think we are living in an endemic of people not knowing how to ACTUALLY communicate their needs and what boundaries ACTUALLY are.
