At least with modern digital soundboards the settings can be put right back with the click of a button or on an app. However, before the digital age that would have been a nightmare.

For 30+ years at the end of the day I always brought them down and then put the cover on. The sliders would go bad if you kept them in the same position all the time (mains mostly) because they would be burning up the contacts in that spot and moving them cleaned them up a little.

just zero them and use a recall or mark it with painters tape or something leaving them in place all the time can erode the contact at that specific spot.
