@philly.mettle: 1994 footage of people exploring the remains of one of Philly’s oldest mental institutions, Byberry State hospital. It’s peak patient population was 7,000 in 1960. The hospital was closed in 1987 in part due to atrocious conditions of the facilities, but the buildings were not demolished until 2006. 🎥: jirimar on YT #phillytiktok #philly #nostalgia #1990s #retro
The closing of this place was sad and that why philly had so many homeless people

My would be great grandmother was a patient there. No one knows what happened to her. We found a suspicious death certificate with someone of her name last name spelled differently and it said her body was “donated to science” but there’s no such records

We used to go in the tunnels with flashlights at night. Scared as hell. Homeless were always down there. It was wrong to tear it down

We used to explore the hospital building on the other side of the Boulevard. It's one of the places the tunnels from the main hospital led to. I think it's a daycare now

I remember when it closed and they made part of it a haunted house during Halloween. Scariest haunted house I’ve ever been in.
