Ruminating helped me see things from different angles til I came to accept things as they were and make peace. Can’t change the past, but I definitely needed to understand it to feel better. I do spend a lot of time in the present too tho, so I can see how its bad if u only spend time in past.

If the past is good you’d be reminiscing “Glory Days” The Boss but if your overthinking of the past in a negative way concentrating on certain events and the events that led up to those events and now your living in those past events in your mind and you do a “minority report” on the past events and ruminating is the goal you keep revisiting the crime scene and you than relive the emotion as well so ruminating is negative it’s the opposite of reminiscing kinda. I had to learn all the personality disorders in order to pinpoint the language I needed to determine what was going on around me so now I can label it intellectually but I hate ruminating its a battle that has been going on over and over i need a new purpose 🧠💰

I dont agree with this at all. As a ruminator I've been in and out of therapy for different reasons. when not in therapy I would ruminate gone wild. therapy forces me to see it from different angles and helps me regulate. gives me answers to stop the cycle. distraction is super temporary

I went to therapy and through my own self awareness I figured out for myself that I was a master at intellectualizing my emotions instead of feeling and processing them. She thought I was well put together 😂

Well, everytime we 'Think' of said bad event our subconscious replays that event and the emotions from that energy like it just happened again...It's about releasing that energy and destroying the loop...

It is not therapy it is the therapist! Also consider this

this is why I'm led to believe that highly intelligent ppl/ruminators with complicated inner words can highly benefit from hypnotherapy and quantum healing. it helps these cognitively flexible individuals completely reframe their suffering from a subconscious level.

There is truth in what you were saying. But there are strategies for people who ruminate and are proven effective. Those strategies tend to be a bit more action oriented. Paraphrase Steve Hayes the job is to get out of your mind and back into your life.

I see an ocd specialized therapist they’ve helped me ruminate less. Taught me how to catch when the rumination is occurring and how to divert my attention elsewhere

So the point is that one needs to identify the emotions occurring and accept them for what they are instead of power thinking how to get away from those emotions

I think this is specifically an American problem - American psychology has severely objectified itself. Example: “stop ruminating”. This kind of thinking is missing context, childhood, relationships, self image, etc. I do think that thinkers struggle more than non thinkers but I don’t think stop thinking is the best approach. - a thinker

What causes rumination? I’ve dealt with it as a young child to now as an adult 😢☹

This is me, I justify by saying that my brain is trying to analyze what I’ve done wrong so that I don’t do it again in the future.
