made this way overly complicated. at full work they do 2 labour hours per hour. with one at half edficiency they do 1.5 labour hours per hour. 12 labour hours to fill the hole. 12 / 1.5 = 8

Too hard. Each would take 12 hours, so each do 1/12 per hour. Now one is 1/24 (half speed) and the other is 1/12 or 2/24. So they do 3/24 per hour together or 1/8. Thus 8 hours to fill it.

it says at the beginning of the question that it took them 6 hours. hungover or not a hole isn't a standard measurement.

If one is at 100% and the other is at 50% then combined they are at 75%. The answer is 6 ÷ .75 = 8

Naw. If it takes 2 people 6 hours to dig a hole, that means each did 3 hours of work. If one does it at had the speed then that means one of them took 3 hours of work and the other did 6. 6/2=3hrs each. 3hrs x 2(half speed)=6. 3+6=9. That’s if you split the work evenly.
