The cat screaming in the background had me cackling.

Reading “____ I said” “she said ____” “then I said, ____” as the only dialogue structure is so incredibly sad 😔 WHERE’S THE FLAVORRRRRR

The world is so small for those who aren’t able to enjoy reading. It makes me so sad. It’s like Plato's Allegory of the Cave. They can’t see how diverse and magnificent the world truly is. What’s the book that first sparked your love of reading?

When I was teaching my children to read this was the hardest part (they were in regular school) but doing homework I’d get so frustrated how do I teach to comprehend

And then there’s me 😂 I read words and sound them out WRONG, but as soon as someone tells me the right pronunciation it all makes sense 😅

People think that reading is just about entertainment. Some books may serve that purpose, sure, but understanding or not understanding the very purpose of reading is a core component of literacy!

This is especially stark when you read threads about shows where the protagonist is not a good person (e.g. You, Breaking Bad, Always Sunny)

My son just had his reading and math score released (3rd grade in California). He’s autistic. His favorite books rn are the dog man books. His reading level was measured at what a 2nd grader in their 4th month of learning. So I am going to assume that if people can understand a meme or political cartoon on TikTok/meta, they are at a second grade reading level, and it might stop there for them.

I GOT SO EXCITED FROM THE JUMP THAT YOU COVERED THIS!! This has been my "account lesson plan" of this month and trying to find the middle point of "video is not overwhelming" and "video encourages them to think" has been very hard to identify. Time for some Hooked on Phonics and coffee as a lil treat for me :D

my 7 year olds lexile scores were that of an eighth grader but that does NOT mean she's ready for 8th grade books.

I get what you're saying, but I think it's likely that some people understand the messages but just have trouble applying them to their own lives due to fear or hopelessness. Sometimes I feel that way myself tbh

There's a reason the entire show's premise was rooted in that specific grade level.

Okay, but to be fair, the book is a controlled environment where a human being decides what the actions and consequences and rewards are going to be. nobody is doing that for us in real life, we have to go on what little information we have and make an educated guess on how to proceed.

I'm reading these comments and rapidly coming to the conclusion that I need a hearing test because I can't hear the cat 😭 (I have known for a while I'm losing the top range of my hearing but this has cemented it)

I struggled with this when I was younger, not because I couldn't read or lacked the comprehension skills, but because I had undiagnosed ADHD (since been diagnosed) and couldn't track a story more than a couple pages before getting distracted and completely losing what I'd read. Started listening to classical music while reading and voila, high school reading level by 4th grade.
