This is Part Three of my three-part update on what your new Mayor and Council have been working on across Torrance—but especially here in North Torrance. In this final video, I want to talk about public safety, the airport, community engagement, wildlife management, local control, and Torrance’s international relationships. On public safety, we approved a ten-year agreement to locate a police substation at Del Amo Fashion Center. This will help maintain a strong police presence at our commercial center and major sales-tax generator. At Torrance Airport, we now have unleaded aviation fuel—an additional option for airport businesses and pilots, and an important step toward reducing lead emissions. Staying connected with residents is another priority. Our coffee meet-and-greets, the North Torrance Neighborhood Association meeting, and the community meeting about the proposed housing development at Hamilton Adult School provide opportunities to talk, ask questions, and make sure your concerns are heard. We’ve also been working on updates to the city’s coyote management plan. A coyote dashboard is in the works. Indiscriminate year-round trapping in South Torrance has been replaced with a focus on full-city public safety, no-feeding enforcement, education, and monitoring. At the League of California Cities, Torrance voted to support local control by endorsing a ballot initiative to return control over zoning to the cities. And we welcomed visiting Japanese delegates, continuing and deepening Torrance’s longstanding relationship with our sister city of Kashiwa and the nation of Japan. We’ve made headway, but there’s still a lot more to do. Thank you to our city staff, my colleagues on the Council, and everyone who has reached out or shown up to participate. Three months in, my focus remains the same: be accessible, pay attention, and follow through. If there’s something in your neighborhood that needs attention, please let me know. I’m here to listen—and to get to work. #torrance
