People used to leave ITW of act one until they had the narrator say “To be continued”. They thought the story was over. Act one is a complete musical. lol

as someone who was in into the woods jr, I'd also note that thd music is hard and with the amount of time our jr high had to rehearse, we wouldn't have had time to polish twice as many songs, even if many were reprises.

I’ve talked to man grown adults who don’t like or get the second act, they’ve said it ruins the show. It always shocks me

My introduction to into the woods was when my sister did the jr version in middle school. Then we rented the stage version recording and I was shocked by the second act as a 10yo 🤣

I also think - to your point that the script is one of the most masterful and tightly written scripts in the MT canon - that cutting material from both acts to get it under an hour (which is a requirement for Jr.) would do a major disservice to the writing. The story would make no sense! Let the kids enjoy it :)

I just think that there are some shows that don't need a jr. edition. Sure, it's better to only have it be the first act for children performers, but there are so many other shows that work better with young performers.

Besides, act 2 of into the woods has always felt more like a sequel to act one than the second half of the story

The whole musical is geared towards adults, and there shouldn’t be a junior version at all, but people are DUMB, and think fairytales means stories for kids.
