I just installed mine like that. Wife wasn’t sure so I stood under the door and let it hit me and it went right back up. They’re completely unnecessary. Somethings always setting them off.

No kids in the house anymore. So they are on the ceiling too. Plus had an issue with afternoon sun causing issues with them when they were installed 6” from the ground.

one of the worst safety features ever created. all of my doors have had the sensors taped eye to eye.

It's not great... but as long as the down pressure setting on the opener isn't set to high, it's not horrible.

I replaced my garage door opener last year and, yeah, the sensors were a kind of a pain. BUT not that big of a pain.

I see a lot of, “but it has pressure sensors” or, “that’s for dummies”, “it still works”. Yes, but the “pressure sensors” forces can become offset somewhat in the case of an opener getting older or a big power surge, because everything is controlled through a logic board in the operator. The safety sensors stop the door in the case that failsafe does not activate. Garage doors can and will unalive you if you are not careful or trained. We STRESS 3-6 inches off the ground and no higher per code. At least in LA, TX, AR
