That's a medium heavy chain, so the ship will have approx 400 meters of chain. Larger vessels will carry up to 800meters. That chain was white marked at 10 meter intervals. I lost vision at 6 markers. At that speed the weigh of chain alone would have kept it going even if the anchor grounded. Unless they can retrieve it approx £70,000 lost Large chain and it could max out £200,000.

The smoke is from the brake shoes burning up as more chain and anchor goes out the heavier it gets brakes had no chance
