The purple one may be glass from the early 1900’s. They used manganese to make it clear then, and over time when exposed to the sun, it turns pale purple like the one you found.

selenite crystals cannot be submerged in water because they are a form of gypsum, a soft, water-soluble mineral with a Mohs hardness of 2, meaning they will dissolve

to clear up any misconception this is selenite not quartz. Selenite is a type of gypsum crystal not feldspar for those who think it is. Finally those confused as to why it isn't dissolving when placed in water is because it needs to be exposed to water for a long period of time. Most of you are probably thinking of the more common form of selenite which first appears when you search selenite on the Internet it. Grows vertically that form of selenite is extremely brittle and will dissolve quickly in water.

I have been there with geologists and they called them selenite. I was there got the fossils.

Selenite is a mostly clear, transparent variety of the sulfate mineral gypsum. So if it's an area they find gypsum in it's likely Selenite. Have fun

It is selenite, theres different types! This gummy type is actually more rare than the dusty satin spar you find in crystal shops!! 👏👏👏 a massive hint is the gummy texture when it’s in your hand, quarts etc feel more sharp and slick to touch!
