People don’t realize that being fetishized is not a fun happy thing its just a different form of dehumanization

Marilyn Monroe is prime example of this issue. Her whole life she’s been treated inhumanly despite being the epitome of beauty (at least according to white people standard)

Maybe they just want darker skin tones to be accepted as desirable and don’t want negative stereotypes of being smelly, hairy, etc. I do agree that beauty is individual tho, if you’re actually pretty it really doesn’t matter what ethnicity you are. But I guess if an entire ethnicity is seen as desirable (like Asian women) even the “mids” can get a lot of attention. So maybe the mids are clamoring for this change (no offense to mids)

no I love where brown women are societally. we are largely ignored. people don't know how to stereotype us, so they leave us alone

Pretty privilege for WOC is not the same as it is for white women — being attractive or beautiful, actually raises the possibility of us getting attacked or hate crimed. People will be rude to you out of pure jealousy and will assume every ounce of your personality to be bitchy in stuck up and will treat you ‘accordingly’. And that’s just the physical aspect of it, if the entire race is considered attractive now you’re getting stereotypes made about you in sexual, inappropriate ways assuming how you would be in bed and people wanting to go your country to take advantage of your people, etc. etc. they will start having standards for your race that don’t exist in your culture comparing you to other women of other races, which will start infighting.

I grew up in India and never saw being pretty as a privilege but more like a curse. All the pretty girls I knew had no freedom because their parents were worried for their safety. They were being followed from school to their homes. Ppl would honk and chase them on motorbikes. A lot of them were not “allowed” to move away for college/university and job opportunities.

really good points! i think it comes from a lack of confidence and a need for external validation, but without understanding that being beautiful in order to be respected is kinda insane
