@mozart_the_spitz: 💭 I left a simple comment on TikTok: “This is so sad there is no consent-based handling.” And wow… the backlash was instant. I got mocked, bullied, and told things like: ❌ “For god’s sake it’s a dog” ❌ “Consent? Do you want him to ask the dog nicely? 😂” ❌ “Do you stop saving a dog’s life if it doesn’t rest its chin in your hand??” What struck me most wasn’t the disagreement: it was the tone. There was no conversation, no curiosity, no “tell me more.” Just black-and-white thinking and quick assumptions. A reflection, really, of the world today: fast to judge, slow to listen. Here’s what consent-based handling actually means: 🐾 It doesn’t mean dogs get to decide about lifesaving care. 🐾 It means in everyday handling (grooming, vet visits, training), we respect their communication. Take the chin rest method: ✨ If a dog keeps their chin steady → they’re comfortable and consent to handling. ✨ If they pull away → we pause, reset, and rebuild trust. This approach doesn’t ignore muzzles, safety, or emergencies. Instead, it acknowledges that dogs do communicate discomfort, and that respecting those signals builds trust and makes handling safer long-term. So why did groomers and vets push back? Because the industry often values speed and efficiency over time and trust. Consent feels like a “luxury.” But for dogs like Mozart the German Spitz, city pup in London 🐶, it’s not a luxury — it’s care, respect, and wellbeing. 👉🏽 If you believe dogs deserve kinder handling too, hit follow @mozart_the_spitz and let’s normalise this conversation. #C#ConsentBasedHandlingF#FearFreePetsD#DogsofInstagramG#GermanSpitzD#DogsofLondon

Jordaan Stewart :
we have reptiles and practice reptile led handling. it's basically the same concept. Sometimes animals don't like to be touched, just like people's. Honestly I think the biggest reason people get dogs is the "unconditional" love aspect
