When I worked with special needs, there’s a lot of parents that don’t want to deal with the psychiatric part of their children and it’s very disturbing. They love to hide behind “well my child is disabled or autistic” meanwhile your child also has psych issues that are completely separate from their disabilities that needs to be addressed. Then them same parents are shocked when people press charges on their child but all they cared about was sending their child to school, ABA services & etc as a glorified babysitter while conveniently not wanting to work on care plans that include seeking outside services to address their extreme aggressive behaviors. I literally had one parent child chase me with a knife.

I’m looking through the comments and people really asking why he’s still in school! Like he is most likely in the super senior program it’s a program for people with disabilities to attend school until you’re 22 and I was in this program!!

I teach high school students with special needs. Most are not violent. However, I have been slapped so hard I literally saw stars. I have been spit on as well kicked. It is very hard to have students removed. Staff will be blamed and given a behavior plan that doesn't usually change the behavior. Consequences are rarely given. I don't have the answer but all people should be able to feel safe in their environment. It angers me when people say violent students should be placed in a self-contained classroom as if students and staff in the self-contained room can be collateral damage. His behaviors didn't just become aggressive.

There are federal laws that force schools to put special ed student in with gen ed student regardless of their disability. From experience most aren’t bad, but there are students that are really hostile that should not be in with gen ed kids, but parents and law force this and it creates a really unsafe environment for everyone.

This is why children with special needs should be taught the difference between good, bad touch, not allowed to do whatever they want to keep them quiet. They grow up to have adult strength, could possibly hurt someone or get hurt. Now he is facing charges when he clearly doesn’t understand what he is doing. They need to know boundaries still people. SMH

I have a special his brother he has has down syndrome and he’s not violent, but if something happened to him or they did something to him. Especially that teacher. I wonder what happened now. Don’t blame it just on him. What is she due to him?
