I love the book, and since reading it I have been haunted by Hank Olson’s mental decline and his death. In the least morbid way possible I was so excited to see how they would portray that and for how devastating it could be.. and I just wish they committed to it

Another aspect I felt was sorely missed was the physical toll the walk took on the boys. Their bodies and minds were completely broken by the end of the book. But Pete in particular seemed basically the same on day 5 as day 1. I understand there were real life limitations on what could be portrayed but they could’ve gone a biiitt further i think.

i wish they didn’t abandon all the concepts of boyhood and naivety in the movie script. McVries’ not comprehending consent but wanting to “feel like a man” when he can’t even pay the bills is such a boy mindset

In the beginning I was joking to myself like “watch Garrity be the Major’s son” before we find out his real secret and then Stebbin’s said it was him and I was like “ah yes there it is” lol

But in the movie at the very beginning when mark is giving them numbers and saying there names and calling them up to get the dog tags with there names he actually calls stebbins son and no one else he directly says son to him and no one else there is a lot of foreshadowing in the movie it’s like when they are having the conversation about wishing for the gun then using it to kill the major and he is like hey hey you can’t do that it’s vengeance don’t be that person you actually need to make it home to your mom my parents are dead and have been dead for years and all this and it changes you and he was talking about everything he had gone through and we were getting that character development then at the very end of the whole movie when things start happening and it just starts being like oh we are going in this direction instead of doing what the book did

stebbins was my favorite character in the book and everything i loved about him in the book was changed, not hating the actor tho i love garret wareing. but i’ll never forgive them for not giving him his moment in the spotlight by being the runner up (and taking away his iconic purple pants).

I actually liked the change on Peter’s character for the purpose of the film ending and honestly it was kind of hard to not look at him weirdly in the book after reading his explanation for the scar

I disagree that he’s a bigger antagonist in the book because most everything we’re shown is through Garraty’s eyes and he’s not always reliable l. The rest of the boys don’t pay Stebbins any mind with a few exceptions. As much as I love Stebbins as a character he’s the most expendable.

I think the new end makes sense since the movie was truly a thriller and not a horror movie BUT if they had gone the horror route with the Crowd, the ghostly apparitions, and they way the boys legit deteriorated the book ending would have been better.

Peter being marketed as an amazing person and not mentioning Priscilla is kinda wild id love a more book accurate movie although I loveddd the long walk movie but also I wouldn’t wanna see a whole ahh sa scene tho😭

And then you know the book well and you have read it so many times you know the movie left you just as lost as it left me and you know exactly what it was doing with the ending where it was like he got the got the gun and the major was like hold your fire and suddenly the whole movie shifted and changed completely and there was nothing that showed if he lived or died or what happened but when it clicked for me is when he dropped to make his sacrifice then dude when over and picked him and said we need to walk a little longer together that is when I got my claps out and my mind was blown and I was like they are really doing it the one thing Stephen didn’t have the dam balls to do in his book
