In the original Popeye comic strip, Olive Oyl flirts with Bluto. She even talks about liking bad boys and Popeye would get jealous while also expressing his confusion on why she was like that.

The Duckberg main characters are related to Donald Duck. So they just copied his white color into each of the family members design. Also hunting dogs were know for a brown color and taking out ducks but for fun lets just reference the Nintendo Duck Hunt Game. They made a brown dog as the one getting the ducks.

Not sure they even said "the theory" but Brutus/Bluto was her using him to make Popeye jealous-- she plays herself 😳🤣... As far as Scrooge McDuck.. He wasn't "good" he was about greed and was SCROOGE (that character from the Christmas play as an villain- and Donald wasn't even "the good character")
